Port of Spain Trinidad July 25 2006: A judge in Trinidad and Tobago has ruled that the police cannot arrest the Chief Justice, Satnarine Sharma, on the criminal charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Mr. Sharma has been accused of trying to intervene improperly in the trial of former Prime Minister Basdeo Panday, who has been convicted for failing to declare a London bank account.
Two Fridays ago the police charged the Chief Justice but were prevented from arresting him by a court order.

Monday another judge confirmed the order saying that the Chief Justice must first be heard by the court on his claim that the case is politically motivated.
