New York, NY : ..As most people are coming down from the fervent high of the
most romantic day of the year, the sister islands of Antigua and Barbuda have announced that it will be Valentine’s
Day every day—during the month of June.
The refreshing trade winds
of the beautiful and exotic islands will be spreading romance and igniting passions across the islands with a variety of special
events and packages during the entire month of June. Located in the heart of the Caribbean, Antigua and Barbuda,
most recently named Best Wedding Island at the Caribbean Travel Awards, are quickly becoming one of the world’s top
wedding and honeymoon destinations with a 21 percent increase in the number of on-island weddings in 2005 alone.
With this designation
in mind, Antigua and Barbuda will now help couples keep the romance alive year-round through a new island wide programme identified
as “Passion in Paradise” which will offer honeymooners, and anyone else looking for a little bit of passion or
paradise, a variety of accommodation and entertainment packages specially designed to elicit those ardent emotions and tender
moments.
Select hotels will be
offering special deals and romance packages that include such items as:
Free champagne
Spa treatments
In room gifts such as massage oil and fresh flowers
Romantic private picnics for two on the beach
Candlelight dinners
Complimentary/vouchers for activities on island such as a Wadadli Cats
Cruise
Souvenir key rings with their photo
During each of the four
weeks of the “Passion in Paradise” programme, the islands will feature an exciting calendar of special events
customized to give newlyweds a chance to enjoy “paradise” together. The first week of June will be culinary week--giving
vacationers a chance to watch some of Antigua and Barbuda’s top chef’s compete in cook-offs with opportunities
to sample the exotic flavors of the West Indian delicacies and island specialties. Festivities will include price-fixed
menus by participating restaurants, barbecues on the beaches, a lobster fest in Barbuda and a wedding cake design contest.
Week two will celebrate
the rich cultural heritage flowing through the islands by offering dancing and steel pan instruction amidst the soulful sounds
of the Caribbean beats. During the third week, one special couple will experience the magic of the islands as they
say, “I do” against a backdrop of turquoise seas, white sand beaches and a breathtaking sunset, all of which will
be streamed onto the Romance Registry Web site. And finally, for the thrill-seeking couple, adventure week will highlight
a variety of soft adventure activities such as sailing, scuba diving, cruising to Montserrat and witnessing an active volcano,
an island-wide treasure hunt and much more.
For those looking to find
that special someone, Antigua and Barbuda will be hosting renowned graphologist and author of the book, “Finding Mr.
Write” who will provide free consultations during the “Passion in Paradise” promotion.
Whether your idea of a
romantic vacation is curling up together in a hammock, hiking a trail to a panoramic view, night diving to the depths of the
ocean floor, or basking in the sun, Antigua’s romance month is sure to spark the passion that is so often stifled the
rest of the year.
Beginning on March 1,
couples have been logging onto Antigua’s new romance registry to purchase romance packages, products and services. The
registry will have packages for every budget and will allow friends and families of the betrothed couples to purchase the
perfect wedding gift—airfare, accommodations, water sports, spa treatments and other activities—to ensure the
honeymoon is the perfect start to the rest of their lives.
“We wanted to offer
couples looking for a destination wedding, honeymoon, or renewal of vows the perfect romantic destination experience,”
explained Derede Samuel-Whitlock, US Director of Tourism for Antigua and Barbuda. “The Passion in Paradise promotion
will focus on wedding and honeymoon packages and special activities created exclusively around the theme of romance and rejuvenation.”
Located in the heart of
the Caribbean, the unspoiled sister islands of Antigua and Barbuda have 365 white and pink sand beaches, translucent turquoise
seas and a tropical sun cooled by year-round trade winds. An easygoing island demeanor fused with the natural charm
of a countryside rich in culture and history provide an authentic and relaxing island escape.
